英文を的確に読むために、接続詞と関係詞を指導することにより動詞の認識に効果をもたらすかを測る調査を中級レベルの大学1年生を対象に行い、その結果を報告する。さらにこの効果が習熟度に影響を受けるかも明示する。指導の効果は、動詞認識テストの平均点の伸びの統計分析と指導を受けた感想や英文を読む際の態度の変化の自由記述の両側面から考察し、いずれからも一定の学習効果と指導の意義が明らかとなった。
